This Christmas handprint craft is super easy and your kids will have a lot of fun getting their hands dirty!
Hey it’s Karleigh! This holiday season I am adding a touch of hand-made to my Christmas cards. I made these hand-print Santa head cards with my kids, and I think they’ll make a great add on to any gift I give family this year!
I want to start by saying this isn’t the most toddler friendly craft I have ever done… I learned that the hard way. I would suggest ages 4+ for any craft that involves painting little hands, however the memories are priceless! And messy.
SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED
- Cardstock paper in various colors (I chose a dark green)
- Paper with a fun pattern
- Pen/pencil
- Paint brushes
- Scissors/paper cutter if you’re fancy
- Double sided tape/foam tape (or glue)
- Paint: White, cream, black and pink
- Cotton balls/felt craft balls (use what you have!)
Step 1
Start by folding your cardstock paper in half to form a card.
Step 2
Next, cut the shape of a Santa Hat from one of your pretty patterned papers. I’ve provided you with a printable of Santa Hat’s in various sizes that you can print and cut around the desired size to use as a template if you don’t feel like free handing!
Step 3
Now for the fun part… painting the little hands! Explain to your littles that we’ll be painting their hand and gently pressing it onto the paper. (Consider showing your kids the motion of placing their hand onto the paper a few times first.)
Make sure you turn the card upside down before placing their painted hand on top! The finger prints are part of Santa’s beard!
Step 4
Let the handprint dry. Then move onto the hat! Use double sided tape, or glue to secure the cotton ball/pom-pom to the tip of the hat cutout.
Then using glue or tape, secure the hat onto the top of the handprint.
Step 5
Once the hand is dry, You can paint an oval face shape under the hat/above the fingers of the hand. Mix together a variety of browns, tans, and cream color acrylic paints, to get your desired skin color!
Step 6
The final details. Add 2 black dots for eyes, the with white paint and a small paint brush, brush on 2 quick eyebrows, a mustache, and some pink cheeks too!
